SH2-78 (Sharpless 78 )

This planetary nebula is quite faint and not an easy object to image. The nebula does respond to the hydrogen-alpha very well and the oxygen III about half as much. However, the sulfur II is so weak that a narrowband color image with all three filters is almost impossible to do. The standard color RGB filters also are very weak so using the H-Alpha channel to colorize the image may be the best way to go. Wide field systems do not have much to image here, so I would suggest larger telescopes for this one. Being as faint as it is, a fast optical system will work best unless you have all the time in the world.
