SH2-37 (IC 1283 and IC 1284 )

This object which is imaged often offers a nice mix of both emission and reflection nebula. This reflection nebula also extended into the large area in the heart of the brighter. The object is fairly bright and responds very well to the hydrogen-alpha but you should take a lot of RGB because you want to preserve the reflection nebula when you blend it with the H-Alpha. A larger telescope can be used to pick up fine detail around the brighter parts of the reflection nebula as well as some structure in the darker areas. Wide field of view systems can also pick up a good part of SH2-41 which is just south of Messier 17, also known as SH2-45. The OIII did not pick up much so I do not think this would make a good narrowband color image.
