SH2-280 (Sharpless 280 )

SH2-280 is a nice object that is fairly bright but does not show up very well in the RGB color filters; however, it does very well with the hydrogen-alpha filter. You do need a longer exposure to colorize the nebula since the H-Alpha is so strong. The nebula also does well with the narrowband filters, but you need to expose the Sulfur II and Oxygen III longer than the H-Alpha channel. The color version of this object was published in Sky & Telescope’s Beautiful Universe 2008 as well as in Astronomy Magazine, August 2007
