SH2-274 (Sharpless 274 )

This small planetary nebula is a favorite among imagers. It offers something for everyone from a large size telescope to pick up the fine structure to a smaller wider field that picks up the nebula around it. The nebula does well with all filters. If you don’t care about the other nebula surround this planetary, you can get a great color LRGB image although I would shoot a bit longer than normal for the RGB as this object is still not the brightest thing around. If you do want to colorize the nebula seen on the left side here, a hydrogen-alpha filter will work well. You will need to finish the image with a composite in Photoshop to restore some of the blue that is seen in the RGB. Using narrow band filers go long on the subframes and take lots of them. Again, this is your also want to capture the area on the left as that area is much fainter. But the oxygen III and Sulfur II work very well with this object.
